Oh little black skirt, you are so versatile.
People go on about the versatility of the little black dress, but I think a black skirt is much more versatile because it takes up just one proportion of your body.
You can pair it with different tops coloured or otherwise, jumpers, wear them over dresses (as Paris to Go does), wear them formally, casually. I once paired my old grey pencil skirt, featured here, with a lace teal top for a wedding, and I looked just as in place as every other woman who was wearing a proper dress.
I’m not a major fan of black clothes generally though because my hair is already black; I feel dorkish-ly coordinated because I feel it looks like I’ve matched my hair to my clothes.
This skirt from Woolovers however, is really lovely. Elastic waist, simple cut, and made from super fine merino wool. Unfortunately it looks like they’ve sold out currently, but I expect it’ll be back soon.
The weave of the wool is airy in the warmer months, but it’ll be insulating in winter and perfectly paired with tall boots and tights. You really can’t go wrong with a black skirt in general.
