Here’s my second attempt at styling these lovely silk pants, and my second outfit for the 10×10 office challenge.
Playing along so far?
I wanted to love this look a bit more than I do currently, but there’s something that isn’t quite working for me.
Separately each of the elements of this outfit – the ankle trousers and the shirt – are perfectly appropriate in their own right. When put together though…
I’m thinking it’s the proportions.
Unlike the sleeveless shirt from yesterday’s outfit, this gingham shirt is actually a boyfriend cut, so it’s a bit blousey around the abdomen. Anything oversized, dropped and unfitted automatically screams casual, and you really need something quite stiff-upper-lip to counteract that vibe.
So the boyfriend cut mixed with the casual drape of the silk means, in my mind, there isn’t so much structure. The proportions are both a bit billowy.
Of course, it could be that the colour combination doesn’t work so well together either, and too much colour takes this down a notch in formality.
Despite my reservations, I’d still be more than happy to wear this to my casual office.
