You ever have those days where you wake up on the right side of the bed, beast mode on, driven and motivated? Those times I like to put on some tunes that reflect that mood or feeling (rather like my burning scented candles) and just go to town. So my musical tastes are pretty commercial, as discussed here – as long as the beat is solid and the bass is generous, I’m a happy bunny. Lyrics come very last on my list of what makes music appealing to me, which may explain why, along with my very commercial tastes I also immesley enjoy old school rap, hip hop, and heavy metal – Marilyn Manson, Eminem, Chevelle, Missy Elliot, Korn to name a few. I have such a love for RnB from all those early mornings sneaking hour over sessions watching R.A.G.E on a Saturday – Nelly, Eve, Ginuwine, Kellis, En Vogue, Ja Rule, Baby Bash, the list goes on.
While the golden age of boy bands and girl groups is not what it was like during my childhood, a new wave of powerful femenist driven music is making their mark. Womanly divas (Madonna, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston et al) are being swapped for the likes of the likes of Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj – equally femenine girls and women, but differently energised and appealing to a different generation.
My current energy inducing music crushes include the following:
- Meghan Trainor – No
- Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman
- Igg Azalea – Team
- Alessia Cara – Here
- Alpine – Damn Baby
Do you have any empowering tunes you like to listen to when you’re on a mission? I’d love to hear what you’ve got on your playlists.
